SUCN recognizes excellence in 78th Academic Convocation

 

The Ǹ College of Nursing (SUCN) honored students who demonstrated academic and sports excellence during the 78th College Week Academic Convocation held at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium on March 20, 2025.

With the theme,“SUCN’s Legacy of Care and Commitment: Honoring our Roots, Inspiring our Future,” the convocation gathered students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, partner institutions, and representatives of the Silliman administration, including Dr. Mae Brigitt Bernadel L. Villordon, interim assistant vice president for Academic Affairs.

Gracing the occasion as guest speaker was Prof. Jusie Lydia Juanillo Siega-Sur, Outstanding Sillimanian Awardee 2020 in Health Professions Education, who inspired the audience with reflections on nursing as both a science and a vocation of service.

A highlight of the event was the launch of thePoincare C. Alilaen, Jr. Academic Excellence Award in Nursing, made possible by alumnus Mr. Poincare Alilaen Jr. The award provides annual support to top-performing students in nursing theory and practice across all levels.

Also recognized was Ms. Irielle Gerlette Torremocha of Class 2025, this year’s recipient of theSUCN Class 2004 Student Research Incentive Award, after her research team won 2nd Best Paper at the 13th International Conference for Nurses. Her team, who were also recognized, included Dianne Cristdel Y. Bato, Christian Anthony F. Cual, John Eric V. Espina, Fiona C. Lugatiman, Anjeli L . Merecido, Maria Veronica E. Miquiabas, Trisha Samantha T. Rubio, Nicole Halley Q. Suan, and Anne Lorraine R. Visorro.

The award, now on its second year, is a legacy project by SUCN Batch 2004, represented at the event by four members: Freslyn Lim-Saco, Noyme Lour Abegil Ligutom Laviste, Jethri Ken Carlo Catalan, and Marne Kristina Catarata Crusio.

This year’s Academic Convocation also marked a historic milestone with the conferment of SUCN’sfirst-ever DAISY Awards. Honored were Asst. Prof. Marnesa P. Campoy for extraordinary teaching and Mr. Christian Maverick O. Tagra for compassionate student leadership. The DAISY Award is an international recognition for nurses who go above and beyond in their profession.
