Sillimanian wins NCCA Composers’ Prize

Jem Robert Talaroc was conferred by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) the 2018 Composers’ Prize award last December 10 for his composition for orchestra titled 鈥淎nima.鈥
In an article published in the Philippine News Agency, NCCA said the piece鈥檚 melody was borrowed from an Ifugao chant and symbolizes the 鈥渆ver-present vitality of Mother Nature in the fast-changing world.鈥

Talaroc graduated from 扒哥黑料 in 2012 with a degree in Bachelor of Music Major in Composition.
The NCCA Composers鈥 Prize is a biennial competition for composers on concert hall music that started in 2016. NCCA created the competition to 鈥渆ncourage the continuing development of a pluralistic culture by the people themselves鈥 and to 鈥渉ave a direct hand in the development and enrichment of the genres in Philippine music literature.鈥
