About

�Ǹ�� in the last 97 years has grown from a small boy’s school to a large university, among the country’s foremost schools. It all started when Dr. Horace Brinsmade Silliman, a New York philanthropist, gave the American Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions an initial grant to start a school in the Philippines. In the quiet town of Dumaguete in the province of Negros Oriental, a missionary couple, Dr. and Mrs. David S. Hibbard opened the school to 15 boys on August 28, 1901, from its humble beginning the school evolved into an institution of higher learning, receiving university status in 1938. The University’s motto is “Via Veritas Vita”.

The College of Engineering started as a Department of Engineering in June 1932, offering an undergraduate program in Civil Engineering. In March 1935, the Board of Trustees authorized the change in the status of Silliman from an Institute to a University. With government approval of this change, Silliman proceeded to adopt additional undergraduate programs in Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering. The College produced its first graduates of the four-year Civil Engineering program in 1947. It was also in the same year that the first two years of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering were offered. In 1952, a two-year program common to all five-year Engineering courses with complete five-year courses in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering was offered. In 1998, the five-year course in Computer Engineering was offered under the Mechanical Engineering Department and then the Computer Engineering Department was created in 2000. However, in 2002, Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering Departments were merged into one department, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. In 1960, the Uytengsu Hall was put up for offices and classrooms. The construction of this building was made possible with the help of Mr. Tirso Uytengsu, a member of the Board of Trustees and a Silliman Alumnus. He also had previously given a memorial scholarship to bear the name of his son Wentworth, a freshman pre-law student of �Ǹ�� who died a martyr at the hands of Japanese KEMPTEITAI when World War II broke out.

In 1970, the Engineering Building was built whereby facilitating additional classroom and laboratory spaces for the College. Its groundbreaking was held on August 28, 1970, and was inaugurated on August 28, 1971, exactly one year later whose guest speaker was the Netherlands Ambassador to the Philippines, Thjark A. Meurs. The Engineering Building also became the site for the College administrative offices, leaving Uytengsu Building mainly for lecture rooms. In 1979, the Charles Bachelor Building was built through a loan grant from the Educational Development Project Implementing Task Force (EDPITAF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It was during the time that late �Ǹ�� President Pedro V. Flores was able to obtain a grant for the payment of the loan from the Charles Bachelor Endowment Fund through the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asian (UBCHEA).

In 1980, the Charles Bachelor Building was commissioned to cater specifically to the need for additional spaces to deliver the Mechanical and Electrical/Electronics laboratory subjects in conjunction with the offering of technology courses.

Procedure for Incoming Freshmen Students

Applicants must apply and attach the required documents and photos using this link: .

Applicants must submit a certified true copy of the Senior High School card for Grades 11 and the first two quarters or the First Semester of Grade 12 with a 2” x 2” ID picture.
General average must be 85% in Grade 11 and the First Semester of Grade 12.
For BSCE, BSEE, BSME, and BSAr applicants, grades in all Mathematics and Physics subjects must be at least 90%.
For BSCpE applicants, the general average and grades in all Mathematics and Physics subjects must be at least 85%.
BSCE and BSAr applicants must be from the STEAM/STEM Track.
Applicants for BSCpE, BSEE, and BSME whose Senior High strand is not STEAM/STEM may be considered subject to further assessment by the Department Chairpersons.

All qualified applicants must take the college admission examination to be scheduled after an initial credential evaluation.

Payment for the testing fee must be made only after the confirmed admission examination schedule, and the official receipt must be submitted or sent back to the CED Office.

The testing fee is ₱300.00 per applicant, to be paid at the Business and Finance Office in account 304.6645 Testing Fee-CED. Upon payment, indicate the name and course applied for in the OR and submit it to the Dean’s Office.

All exams will be administered only as scheduled. No special schedules will be given. Examinations for admission are only given before the start of the academic year. There will be no examination in between semesters.

Additional requirements for BSAr applicants:

Applicants must have good drawing skills and are to self-assess for the following skills (to be verified as the student progresses during the First Semester):

at least an average level of creativity skill
at least an average level of visualization skill
at least an average level of thinking and reasoning skill
at least an average level of analytical skill

An interview will be administered as an additional assessment. Only applicants who pass the college admission examination will be interviewed and ranked accordingly.

All pre-accepted applicants (examination passers and ranked for slots) must take a psychological test at the �Ǹ�� Testing Center. An e-mail will be sent to proceed with taking the test. Only after this is complied with will their applications be marked “accepted.”

Notification of Accepted Applicants: May 25 – June 5, 2026.

The general average and final grade in all Mathematics and Physics subjects must be at least 2.0.

All qualified applicants must take the college admission examination to be scheduled after an initial credentials evaluation. Payment for the testing fee is the same as for new applicants and follows the same procedure.

Additional requirements for BSAr applicants include self-assessed skills in creativity, visualization, thinking and reasoning, and analytical skills, with the possibility of an interview if they pass the entrance exam.

Procedure for Incoming Freshmen Students

Applicants must apply and attach the required documents and photos using this link: .

Applicants must submit a certified true copy of the Senior High School card for Grades 11 and the first two quarters or the First Semester of Grade 12 with a 2” x 2” ID picture.
General average must be 85% in Grade 11 and the First Semester of Grade 12.
For BSCE, BSEE, BSME, and BSAr applicants, grades in all Mathematics and Physics subjects must be at least 90%.
For BSCpE applicants, the general average and grades in all Mathematics and Physics subjects must be at least 85%.
BSCE and BSAr applicants must be from the STEAM/STEM Track.
Applicants for BSCpE, BSEE, and BSME whose Senior High strand is not STEAM/STEM may be considered subject to further assessment by the Department Chairpersons.

Payment for the testing fee must be made only after the confirmed admission examination schedule, and the official receipt must be submitted or sent back to the CED Office.

The testing fee is ₱300.00 per applicant, to be paid at the Business and Finance Office in account 304.6645 Testing Fee-CED. Upon payment, indicate the name and course applied for in the OR and submit it to the Dean’s Office.

All exams will be administered only as scheduled. No special schedules will be given. Examinations for admission are only given before the start of the academic year. There will be no examination in between semesters.

Additional requirements for BSAr applicants:

Applicants must have good drawing skills and are to self-assess for the following skills (to be verified as the student progresses during the First Semester):
